When I say a “one minute crochet heart,” I mean it. You can literally crochet a whole heart in less than 60 seconds. So, if you are finding this post on February 13 (and your child just announced that they are doing Valentines exchange at school tomorrow after all), do not worry! You’ve got plenty of time to make two dozens of these before dinner time.

Since I was in a similar pickle (at least my son gave me a week’s notice), I set out to find a truly quick crochet heart pattern. Ultimately, I combined and adapted several ideas until I was happy – and ready to mass produce. I needed 22! One minute crochet, people! It’s a real life saver.

This one minute crochet heart consists of 15 stitches worked into an adjustable loop. My detailed, step-by-step adjustable loop tutorial might be helpful if you aren’t familiar with the technique or need a refresher.

Stitches used (US terminology):

chain (ch):

Yarn over and pull it through the loop on the hook.

double crochet (dc):

Yarn over, insert hook into the adjustable loop, yarn over and pull up a loop (you now have 3 loops on the hook). Yarn over and pull yarn through the first 2 loops on the hook (you now have 2 loops left on the hook). Yarn over and pull yarn through the remaining 2 loops on the hook

triple crochet (tc):

Yarn over twice, insert hook into the adjustable loop, yarn over and pull up a loop (you now have 4 loops on the hook). Yarn over and pull yarn through the first 2 loops on the hook (you now have 3 loops left on the hook). Yarn over and pull yarn through the first 2 loops on the hook (you now have 2 loops left on the hook. Yarn over and pull yarn through the remaining 2 loops on the hook

One minute crochet heart – Materials

  • 220 cm (7 ft 3 in)
  • 6 mm (J) crochet hook

One minute crochet heart – Instructions

Work the following stitches into an adjustable loop: ch 2, 2xdc, 3xtc, ch 1, tc, ch 1, 3xtc, 2xdc, ch 2, sl st into the loop.

When you’re finished, tighten the adjustable loop. Weave ends in and trim excess. Alternatively, you can use the excess to form a loop for hanging the heart – I even added a decorative bead.

And that’s it! One minute crochet heart finished – in under a minute, no doubt! Just for the fun of it: time yourself and let me know how long it takes you!
