Classic black & white crochet basket that is sturdy, functional, and timeless.

MATERIALS

Sugar’n Cream Cotton, or other yarn that yields 13 wpi; 5.5 mm (7/32 in) cotton clothesline with polyester core; 5.5 mm (I-9) hook and 5 mm (H-8) hook; tapestry needle, scissors, and stitch marker

SKILL LEVEL

This is an intermediate-to-advanced crochet project.

It requires constant shaping and tension management of both the stitches and the coil. In addition, it employs waistcoat stitch, a slightly more challenging version of a single crochet stitch. Moreover, to create a firm, sturdy basket, waistcoat stitch in this pattern is worked with two strands of yarn held together and a considerably smaller hook size than is typically recommended for waistcoat stitches. Due to these factors, this pattern is not recommended for a novice crocheter.
