Call it a hybrid craft, if you will. Macramé inspired crochet. Or, you might get used to calling it macrachet (© 2019 jakigu.com). As in macramé + crochet. Pronounced ma-kra-‘shea, of course. I see macrachet as a blend between the macramé aesthetic and the coiled crochet technique.
You may ask why would I try and combine two otherwise perfectly adequate art forms. Well, you know me. I hardly ever follow the (creative) rules or stay within the lines (of a traditional craft). I must have seen something somewhere, and the memory of that vision came back months later along with the realization, “I bet I could crochet that!” Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m a strong believer that just because you could crochet something, it does not mean that you should. But in this instance, I think the end result is quite stunning. And it came out exactly as I pictured it.
But the more important question is, “What do you think of the macrachet look?”
Would you like a little wall hanging for your own home? I’ve been entertaining the idea of setting up an exclusive one-time machrachet pop-up shop to sell finished wall hangings, if there were enough interest. So, if you’d like one, crocheted by yours truly, do let me know in the comments!
Alternatively, I could write a pattern & step-by-step guide. Again, if there is enough interest, so voice your preference below.
In either case, if you do leave a comment, expect an email with a 50% off coupon code when I either open the pop-up shop or when I publish the first macrachet pattern ❤️❤️❤️
In the meantime, check out my Macrachet Pinterest board devoted to macrachet and crochetable macramé inspiration. And don’t forget to subscribe to the jakigu.com blog, so you are the first to know when I come up with something weird again 😉
