Recently, in a detour from my beloved crochet baskets, gift bags, and picture frames, I’ve been toying with something quite different.
Call it a hybrid craft, if you will. Macramé inspired crochet. Or, you might get used to calling it macrachet (© 2019 jakigu.com). As in macramé + crochet. Pronounced ma-kra-‘shea, of course. I see macrachet as a blend between the macramé aesthetic and the coiled crochet technique.
You may ask why would I try and combine two otherwise perfectly adequate art forms. Well, you know me. I hardly ever follow the (creative) rules or stay within the lines (of a traditional craft). I must have seen something somewhere, and the memory of that vision came back months later along with the realization, “I bet I could crochet that!” Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m a strong believer that just because you could crochet something, it does not mean that you should. But in this instance, I think the end result is quite stunning. And it came out exactly as I pictured it.

Since then, I have made a few different macrachet wall hangings. I won’t lie; I like each of them for different reasons. But the more important question is, “What do you think of the macrachet look?”

Would you like a little wall hanging for your own home?
Of course, I will be working on writing and publishing crochet patterns for these macrachet pieces and adding them to my shop. I’ll update this post to list all that have been published to date below. You can simply click the Add to cart button to purchase it (read on for a 25% off coupon code!)
Macrachet patterns currently available at jakigu.com (and in my Etsy shop):
Since the number of designs is growing, help me choose what pattern to work on next by letting me know in the comments. And if there is a macrachet design in my shop that you like, go ahead and get it at for 25% off with coupon code MACRACHET.
In the meantime, check out my Macrachet Pinterest board devoted to macrachet and crochetable macramé inspiration. And don’t forget to subscribe to the jakigu.com blog, so you are the first to know when I come up with something weird again 😉
Wow I love them all very awesome! Thanks for inspiration!
